Every Kid Counts Oklahoma (EKCO) is partnering with local businesses to award innovative Oklahoma educators with a direct gift to their classroom.
Kingfisher High School teacher, Dr. A.J. Johnson, was nominated for the work he has been doing inside and outside of the classroom to shape his students and the profession. EKCO recognized Dr. Johnson for his selflessness, commitment to his students and longevity to Kingfisher High School.
EKCO is pleased to reward teachers across the state who are working on innovative classroom or extra-curricular projects that benefit their students or their colleagues. Local administrators have nominated one innovative teacher in their district for a scholarship that they can use for a professional development course, a specific curriculum training or to fund a project or initiative they are working on in their classroom.
This initiative is bringing together educators, business owners and community leaders to honor our teachers. EKCO partnered with local business leaders Jared Harrison and Ryan Deatherage to award Dr. Johnson $1,000, which he plans to use for the school’s photography program. The program will provide outstanding student photographers with photo experiences they might not otherwise have.
“EKCO is honored to highlight the innovation and dedication of Oklahoma educators. It is our goal to empower teachers and provide support and resources to meet the needs of each student,” said Laura Hendrix, interim executive director of Every Kid Counts Oklahoma. “I’m grateful to see local business leaders that represent the community supporting these teachers who are shaping the future of Oklahoma.”
In December 2022, Dr. Johnson was presented with the award and joined by fellow Kingfisher teachers and staff.
